Jigokudani Yaen Koen (wild monkey park) is a very popular tourist attraction in the Shiga Kogen area.
Located in the Kambayashi Onsen area at the foot of the Joshinetsu National Park, Jigokudani Yaen Koen is a must-see for every visitor to Shiga Kogen.
See the monkeys bathing in the natural hot springs, sleeping on the rocks, and playing amongst the snow all within their natural environment and habitat.

Transport

 

 

Catch the Shiga Kogen ski shuttle service bound for Yudanaka town Train station. Buses depart hourly and will take you to the Kambayashi Onsen bus stop for around JPY900 depending upon your starting point.
From Kambayashi Onsen Bus Stop follow the monkey face signs along a winding path to the Jigokudani Yaen Koen Entrance. The path is over 2km long so allow you a 25 minutes walk to the park's entrance gate.

* The path to the monkey park entrance is quite rough and rugged and suitable walking shoes and clothes are recommended to be worn.
* Be mindful of your belongings and keep bags and cameras securely on you.
* Do not feed the monkeys and try to avoid taking any food into the park with you.
