Powder Snow Spots in Shiga Kogen

POWDER SNOW — light, dry, and incredibly soft — is one of the most magical experiences on the slopes. When you ride through it, it’s like floating on waves… or even drifting through clouds.
Unlike groomed slopes, powder snow gives you a sense of freedom and weightlessness that words can’t quite capture. For many, it’s love at first ride — and once you’ve experienced it, there’s no going back.
That’s why riders around the world speak of Japan’s legendary powder with a special name: “JAPOW.”

Shiga Kogen is one of the highest ski resorts in Japan and it is located inland area surrounded by mountains.

First, cold winter winds from the Sea of Japan hit the mountain ranges, bringing heavy, wet snowfall. As these winds reach Shiga Kogen, they transform into dry, light powder snow. This unique altitude and inland climate create some of the finest quality powder snow in the region.

To fully enjoy powder snow, we recommend you prepare proper equipment designed for powder snow. If not, you may lose your speed or be stuck in deep snow.

Now, let’s check out the powder snow spots recommended by our staff who know Shiga Kogen inside and out!
