Escape the Summer Heat at the Summit of Mt. Yokoteyama
When the cities below are sweltering in the summer heat, Mt. Yokoteyama in Shiga Kogen offers a cool escape at 2,300 meters above sea level — often around 10°C cooler than the lowlands. Whether you’re looking for a refreshing hike or a scenic lift ride, reaching the summit is easier than you might think.
You can access the top via two lift routes: the Shibutoge Romance Lift from the Shibutoge Ski Area side, or the Sky-Lator and Sky Lift from the Yokoteyama Ski Area side. Both have free parking available.
Prefer to hike? A 30-minute to 1-hour walk from either side will get you to the summit, where panoramic views and crisp mountain air await. It’s the perfect highland getaway during Japan’s humid summer months.
