Accommodation Tips

There are over 100 hotel facilities within the Shiga Kogen resort, catering for all budgets, trip styles and preferences.
All hotels offer accommodation and meal packages which generally include one nights stay and two meals (dinner and breakfast) within the quoted room price.
Meal package deals are a popular and convenient way of booking hotel accommodation in Shiga Kogen due to the fact that there are limited restaurants open at nighttime and Shuttle services cease quite early in the evening.

Most hotel facilities offer either Japanese style, Western style or, semi-Japanese style rooms, or may even have a combination of the three types.

A Japanese style room involves sleeping on futon mattresses laid on a tatami mat floor. Pillows are often made from rice and guests make their own bed with the linen provided by the hotel. Commonly, Japanese-style rooms have a basin and toilet facility within the room. However, shower and bath facilities are communal.

A Western-style room includes standard single sized beds and soft pillows. This type of room generally includes full ensuite bathroom facilities with a bath, shower, toilet and basin.

A Semi-Japanese style room includes western style mattress beds with a small tatami mat area, hence the name, semi-Japanese style.

 

About outside restaurants

The Ichinose area is possibly the busiest location in Shiga Kogen with the most hotels and restaurants. There are a few Izakaya (Japanese-style) pubs and other restaurants which you are freely able to dine in at nighttime of which some do require a pre-booking. Similarly, the Okushiga Kogen Grand Phenix Hotel restaurant may offer transportation from its restaurant at night with advanced notice and prior booking. Otherwise, dinner dining can only be eaten within your booked hotel. Thus, room and meal package deals are highly recommended.
